Brothers Standing Together (BST) is a federally recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that was founded in 2009 to help decrease neighborhood violence in an effort to contribute to a safe environment for children and families beginning with serving our youth.
BST began as a dream of its founder, Raymond Richard, who was inspired by his own experience in growing up in the former Cabrini Green housing projects. He realized how different his life would have been if he had a mentor to teach him when he was a teen what he had learned the hard way about the value of education and that violence is not the answer. As a result, a desire to help others avoid his mistake arose and BST was born.
BST’s vision is to see a complete cessation in violence and all people living happy, healthy, and whole lives.
Today, in order to achieve the vision, BST partners with various organizations to create and offer programs such as Overcoming Obstacles Seminar Series, job placement through Labor Temps, internships, and mentoring programs for young men. We also host community awareness and outreach events which stress the importance of education and provide opportunities for unifying the local neighborhoods through family-friendly, legal aid, and records relief events. With the help of our alderman, the community park district, and other local churches and organizations, we are able to achieve our goal.
